Spring Break, Montana Style!

Spring Break in Montana

Unlike thousands of individuals who head to sandy Southern beaches to wallow in the warm waters and party into the night, those with a passion for adventures in the great outdoors head to Montana. And with good reason.

It’s a different kind of  the “call of the wild.”

From spring skiing or hiking to fishing our crystal-clear lakes and streams to a road trip along the Rockies  … outdoor adventure awaits!

At Hollinger Real Estate, we love every season – yet we always appreciate the return of spring within so many of our storybook settings – many of which are just steps out the backdoor to the homes for sale right now in Montana. Want to see them for yourself? Contact the Hollinger Team now for personal tours.

Highlights of Spring Break Adventures in Montana

With more sunshine and warmer temperatures in the forecast, it won’t take much time for us to grab our gear, pack a picnic, and get outside. Here are a few of our favorite spots to soak it all in!

Favorite Spring Hike
Stillwater River Trail
(near) Red Lodge, Montana

This very popular hike is accessible almost year-round, a rarity in the Beartooth Mountain. A paved road leads to the trailhead, and its elevation is lower than most in the Beartooth (home to the highest 41 peaks in Montana at 12,799 feet)!

This hike goes to Sioux Charley Lake, a large, calm Stillwater River area popular with fishermen. And the river canyon is home to deer, coyotes, moose, beaver, and ruffed grouse.

Favorite Fishing Spot
Yellowstone River
Southern Montana

Important note: the fish are hungry which give you all the reason in the world to get out into the great outdoors. Although the list of our favorite fishing spots could last forever, we chose the Yellowstone River to showcase today, where the Rainbows are often 13″ – 16″ and the trophy prize can often be a 25″ Brown Trout.

And there is plenty of room for all of you. The Yellowstone River is the longest free-flowing river in the USA and one of the most productive trout fisheries.

Favorite for Spring Skiing
Big Sky Resort
Big Sky, Montana

For over 50 years, spring in Big Ski Country has hosted some of the best spring skiing in the Northwest. Their website says it best:

“Make the most of your season and experience Big Sky’s best season—wide-open terrain, sneaky April pow days, and warmer afternoons for outdoor après on our amazing decks. Smaller crowds and savings on lift tickets and lodging make the stunning views of Lone Peak and the surrounding mountains even better. The mountain is open through Sunday, April 28—make the most of your winter here in Big Sky.”

Favorite Road Trip
Flathead Lake
Northwest Montana

Road trips are always a great way to connect with family and friends, and a trip around the famous Flathead Lake is always top of mind. We suggest Glacier National Park be the starting point for a day-long adventure. As you drive around the Lake (you can go along the West or East shore), you will find yourself seeking art, culture, treasure … and lots of local brews from north to south. Some of our favorite charming towns to walk around include Whitefish, Bigfork, and, at the south end, Main Street in Polson, Montana.
